Meet Andrew Brooks, M.D.
Foot and ankle surgeon Andrew Brooks, M.D., grew up in Michigan, the son of a family practice physician. He enjoyed playing sports throughout his childhood, and he was initially interested in a career in sports medicine.
Dr. Andrew Brooks’s background
Dr. Brooks completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Michigan State University, followed by residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He found orthopedic surgery to be the right fit as a medical specialty, and during his residency, he was drawn to the foot and ankle in particular. “Foot and ankle allows you to do a little bit of everything and perform lots of different surgeries,” Dr. Brooks said.
He went on to complete a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas before joining Summit Orthopedics.
Dr. Andrew Brooks’s practice philosophy
Dr. Brooks’s goal is to get people back up on their feet. Whatever their goals are, and whatever they love doing, from walking their dog to running a marathon, he is dedicated to getting them back to doing those things. “Even though I’m a surgeon, my goal is always to do the least amount possible to get patients back to their desired activities. Whenever appropriate, we’ll try conservative and nonsurgical options like bracing and orthotics first,” Dr. Brooks said. “But if surgery is what’s needed, we’ll move in that direction as a patient-doctor team.”
Overall, Dr. Brooks hopes his patients find him to be a caring, compassionate listener who always addresses their needs with well-thought-out plans. “As a physician, I am dedicated to doing whatever is needed to make sure the patient has the best outcome possible,” he noted.
More about Dr. Brooks
Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three young children. He loves to play golf and basketball, and he gets outdoors with his kids to explore and enjoy nature every chance he gets. He is also an amateur grill master and sports fanatic. If a Michigan State game is on, that’s where you’ll find him.
