About Me
Meet Dr. Reed Williams
Reed C. Williams, M.D., M.B.S., R.M.S.K., is a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physician specializing in nonoperative sports, musculoskeletal, and diagnostic and interventional ultrasound medicine at Summit Orthopedics. He takes his role as a patient advocate, educator, and physician very seriously. He strongly believes that the art of medicine is just as important as the science behind it.
“I am sincerely passionate about creating and implementing individualized treatment plans for my patients,” said Dr. Williams. “This foundation is built on my desire to form personalized relationships with people, cemented by my unique skill set, which combines an in-depth understanding of human biomechanics with expertise in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound.” Dr. Williams aims to help patients understand the “what” and “why” behind their particular setbacks. He strives to work diligently alongside them to provide the tools to move forward.
Background and experience
“I grew up playing sports, getting dirty, and spending time outside,” said Dr. Williams. “I was always interested in becoming a doctor because of the ability to impact and help others. It all fell into place after I suffered an injury during my senior year of high school. That’s when my interest in anatomy, function, and recovery was sparked.”
Driven by his passion for anatomy and recovery, as well as a growing understanding of the connection among movement, activity, physical health, and mental health, Dr. Williams discovered the field of PM&R and subsequently sports medicine. “Both fields of medicine allow me to get people back to the things they love doing and the things that fulfill them. Helping people get back into their own lives, rather than watching their lives pass them by on the sideline, is what excites me,”.
After earning a master’s degree in biomedical science, Dr. Williams earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He pursued residency training in PM&R, followed by a fellowship in nonoperative sports medicine at Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center. Before joining Summit, he served as an assistant clinical professor of PM&R and orthopedics at Temple University and the University of Texas Southwestern.
Dr. Williams has developed expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound within sports and musculoskeletal medicine. He uses this skill to advance his diagnostic capability at the bedside and enhance his treatment strategies. He specializes in minimally invasive interventional procedures guided by ultrasound visualization. This includes joint injections, nerve blocks, percutaneous tenotomies, orthobiologic and regenerative medicine, and the future of ultrasound-guided techniques.
Dr. Williams’ life outside of medicine
Outside the office, Dr. Williams is a dedicated family man. He enjoys skiing, biking, and exploring the outdoors with his family — including his two doodles. He is also an avid theatergoer and movie watcher.
