Dr. Matthew Tarabochia’s background

Education was always important in his family, and his parents advised him to find a career that he would be proud of. He chose a career in medicine. In medical school, he chose to specialize in orthopedics out of a desire to help people who are injured and need help to get back to their work, which for many is a key aspect of their identity. “I enjoy working to restore people to their most functional state, so they can get back to their active lives, whether that is work, athletics, or another activity.

After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Washington and graduating cum laude, Dr. Tarabochia earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed residency training in orthopedics at Harvard, then went on to undertake a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. His specialty covers the shoulder all the way to the fingertips.

Dr. Matthew Tarabochia’s practice philosophy

For Dr. Tarabochia, practicing medicine comes down to meeting patients where they are, understanding their problems, laying out their options, and counseling them on what will be their best option to meet their needs and goals.

“Understanding a patient’s problem goes beyond just getting an X-ray or arriving at a diagnosis,” Dr. Tarabochia said. “It’s also having a good sense of what the patient needs to accomplish to be successful, and what the outcome of a given treatment will be.”

Dr. Tarabochia works with each patient to find the right option for the individual. “I want my patients to feel that I met their expectations as they moved through their episode of care and that they felt cared for throughout the process,” he said.

When he is not working, Dr. Tarabochia loves to spend time with his wife and son. He also enjoys exercise, including hiking and running, as well as cooking.
