Meet Kelsey Overman, M.D.
Dr. Overman specializes in the evaluation and treatment of all conditions related to the fingers, hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and upper arm. This includes sports-related injuries, work-related injuries, degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis conditions, nerve compression syndromes, and traumatic reconstruction. Her passion for upper extremity surgery developed through her surgical training after seeing how vital upper extremities are for peoples’ jobs, hobbies, and activities of everyday life. “The upper extremity, with all the intricate anatomy, is such an integral component of people doing what they love,” she said. “It brings me joy to help get people back to doing those things.”
Dr. Kelsey Overman’s Background
Dr. Overman grew up in Dallas, Texas. She was a high school All-American soccer player and subsequently went on to play Division I soccer at Colorado College, where she met her husband, a Division I hockey player. In college, she developed an interest in orthopedic surgery after shadowing the student athlete surgeon and taking a surgical anatomy course. She then spent a year doing orthopedic surgery research at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.
Dr. Overman graduated magna cum laude with her medical degree from the University of Texas. After medical school, she completed her residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota, followed by a hand and microsurgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Kelsey Overman’s Practice Philosophy
The cornerstone of Dr. Overman’s approach to practicing medicine is the concept of treating the patient. “It’s important for me to take the time to really understand what patients’ concerns are and focusing treatment here, versus treating results of an X-ray or MRI,” she said. “By understanding the patient’s goals and lifestyle, I can best help the patient decide on a treatment that will enable optimal function and allow maximal patient satisfaction.”
