Summit Achieves Certification for Excellence in Shoulder Joint Replacement

Congratulations to the Summit Orthopedics team. The practice’s ambulatory surgery center (ASC) has received Joint Commission certification in shoulder arthroplasty (shoulder joint replacement). We are the first freestanding ASC in the country — and one of four in total — to be awarded Joint Commission disease-specific certification in this area.

Summit’s ASC has also been honored with certifications in spine fusion and advanced total hip and knee replacement, making it the first freestanding ASC in the country to receive recognition in all three areas.

The Joint Commission is an independent, third-party evaluation and certification organization, renowned for its commitment to assessing healthcare organizations according to rigorous standards for high-quality, safe care. In order to earn this disease-specific certification, Summit’s ASC needed to meet several robust criteria, including:

Organizations undergoing assessment by the Joint Commission also host a team of evaluators for a site visit.

“This prestigious recognition exemplifies our unwavering commitment to the highest standards of patient safety, exceptional surgical care, and excellence in shoulder surgery,” said Beckie Hines, COO at Summit Orthopedics. “It reinforces our dedication to innovation, quality, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

Outpatient surgery at a Summit ASC

Having outpatient surgery at an ASC can be a great alternative to having surgery in the hospital for people who are otherwise healthy. It offers the same quality care at a lower cost. Patients can spend up to 23 hours at the ASC.

Summit’s ASCs boast lower infection rates of just .12%, as compared to the industry standard of 3.5%. In 2023, more than 8,500 patients had surgeries performed at one of Summit’s ASC locations, with a 99% satisfaction rate. Learn more about Summit ASCs quality data.

At the Vadnais Heights and Eagan locations, Summit offers Care Suites for eligible patients who underwent surgery at an ASC.
